Bringing personalized, collaborative learning to life

Every six months, we gather the Sana team around the Hamming question: "What are the most important problems in your field?" This question has guided us since the start, and during our most recent discussions in September, there were two clear answers:

1. Creating collaborative and interactive learning experiences

2. Organizing and personalizing the world's learning content

The world has changed dramatically over the past 18 months. The new realities of hybrid work, the Great Resignation, and the global skills gap now require us to think more ambitiously than ever about the learning experience—to find new and innovative ways to bring learning to life.

Today, I'm thrilled to give you a behind-the-scenes peek into that journey by sharing the four core areas we've been working on during these past two months:

  • Skills development - a new taxonomy and personalization engine that's taking competency development to a whole new level
  • Content integrations and import - more ways to bring the best learning content into Sana, fast
  • Effortless content creation - so you can empower everyone in your team to share what they know

Building a new virtual classroom for interactive, collaborative learning

Something magical happens when people come together. When we can build on each other's ideas and develop new points of view, we not only learn more; we're more engaged. That said, if you've attended or run a virtual group session in the past year, you'll know just how hard it is to keep that spark alive. That's why we set out to create a virtual space with interactivity and engagement at the heart of the experience—a space where people feel energized and empowered to learn.

While first and foremost a vision, this film is also a roadmap that we discuss and shape with our partners. Together, we explore new ideas and uncover what's most important.

Adding more ways to bring the best content into Sana

To better enable fast-growing organizations to upskill their teams, we're making it easier to bring the world's best learning content into Sana. You can integrate with vast libraries like LinkedIn Learning in a few taps and import and convert everything from existing PDFs and PPTs to SCORM files. All of your learning content lives in one place—transforming into a centralized, dynamic knowledge bank.

Taking skills development to a whole new level

Imagine you're using Sana for the first time. You start by importing all your existing learning files and libraries like Linkedin Learning. Sana then automatically tags every piece of content with the appropriate skills based on our universal taxonomy and connects them to pre-defined job roles. From there, Sana begins to tailor the content recommendations to each employee based on their role, current skill interests and levels, and activity within the platform.

Sana takes these recommendations one step further by using state-of-the-art language models to understand the content itself—for example, the speech within a video or text within a course. So whether you're developing the specific skills for your role or diving into a topic you're passionate about, Sana will always have the next best thing for you.

It's been an incredible period of exploration. We've learned so much about what learners need and want from skills, how they perceive skills assessments, and much more. After all, their experience is what matters most; technology is merely the enabler.

Making content creation effortless to unlock your team's expertise

The number one competitive advantage for any organization is its people. Teams are full of subject matter experts teeming with knowledge, and if we want them to share it, we need to lower the barrier to producing learning content dramatically.

At Sana, we organize around missions based on our key bets and beliefs. We strongly believe that a more seamless way to create, edit, and review content can democratize learning within organizations. Over the past couple of months, our Create team has reimagined the authoring experience within Sana. They've explored everything from how to help creators write better course questions with AI to collaborative editing and real-time commenting.

Learning technology has often focused on managing knowledge instead of unleashing it. We want to change that.

If you're familiar with learning technologies, these updates might make you wonder: Is Sana an LMS, an LXP, or an authoring tool? Our answer to that is: It's the best of all three, and more. There are so many learning tools out there, and many of you have told us how overwhelming and challenging it is to stitch them all together.
